In Sports Talk~The Personality Behind the Personalities, fans and colleagues of Sports Talk Radio will learn how industry leaders arrived at their current jobs.
We'll take you behind the scenes of the lives on and off the air of these compelling personalities and uncover the driving force behind their success.
You'll find out how one host went from drugs, alcohol, and attempted suicide to hosting an afternoon drive show in a top-five market, which talk show host was kicked off the University of Maryland football team for throwing another student out of a dorm room window, and which talk show host named his first born after the stadium of his favorite baseball team.
The three authors of this book have, combined,  over 70 years of broadcast experience. And will give you access that would otherwise be impossible.
We'll take you from NYC to LA and everywhere in-between, talking to local and national hosts.
We hope to entertain, inform, and advance the stories of the Personalities just like your favorite talk show host does for you on a daily basis.

From The Authors

When we went into this project our goal was straightforward. The aim was to truly discover the personality behind the personalities we hear coming through our radios, from coast to coast, each day.
We wanted to know who these guys really are. How did they get where they are today? What were they like growing up? What moves them?
What are they like off the air?
We wanted to hear their personal stories and experiences, both in and out of broadcasting.
Every individual in this book has been successful in his craft, but each had a unique arrival and gained popularity with a singular approach.
We weren’t looking to make this an exposé or to dig for salacious material. Any skeletons from the closets of our subjects were willingly provided.
Fortunately, the broadcasters you will read about were very forthcoming and provided us with great content.
You will learn of the talk show host who put a gun to his head and was given a second chance. Another host in this book talks bluntly about his steroid use as a college football player. Yet another has been fired from a myriad of jobs because of his outspoken nature and railing against the industry. These stories and many others are what this book is all about.
We can argue with their stance on a subject. We can certainly debate their philosophies. But we can’t dispute their testimony. These are their stories and we hope we’ve been able to chronicle them in an engaging, entertaining, and informative manner.

“The reason I wanted to walk away is how cutthroat and vicious and backstabbing and lying and stealing and thievery of the people that run these radio companies are. I’ve never worked with so many corrupt liars and pieces of s--t in my life.”

“It’s kind of f----d up when you’re having dinner with your parents and your baby sister, and the front doorbell rings and it’s an associate of one of the top crime families in New York who said to my father, ‘Your son over there owes us some money, so are you gonna pay it?'”

“I went to Miami as a freshman in college and only lasted three months. I had to come home because all I did for three months, literally, was eat Captain Crunch and do cocaine.”

“When I was in school at Maryland, I couldn’t get into the journalism school and now I’m on the board.”
